Alex Morcos co-founded Hudson River Trading in 2002 and spent ten years there working on automated trading and market structure. He found Bitcoin in 2012, and in 2014 he co-founded Chaincode Labs with Suhas Daftuar as a place for engineers to work on Bitcoin without a commercial product attached to the output.
He contributes to Bitcoin Core himself. The 0.12.0 release notes credit him with the change that skips BIP30 verification where it is not necessary, one of a run of consensus and mempool contributions in that period.
He is also one of Bitcoin Optech's three named founding sponsors, alongside Wences Casares and John Pfeffer. His stated reason was that Optech had taken the initiative on communication between industry and the open source development community, which is a fair description of the gap Optech was set up to close.
