Arkade is an open toolkit for applications that need payments, asset exchange or other
programmable Bitcoin transactions. It builds on the Ark protocol rather than creating a
new blockchain or token. The maintained arkd server coordinates off-chain transaction
execution, on-chain settlement and virtual transaction outputs, while client software
connects through its public API.
The official documentation describes arkd as the backbone of an Arkade instance. Its
two main services handle batch processing, settlement intents, transaction history and
live subscriptions. The server also needs a separate wallet service for Bitcoin liquidity.
Operators therefore run infrastructure and provide liquidity; Arkade is not a peer-to-peer
network with no coordinating server.
Users keep their own signing keys and committed exit paths, but that does not remove every dependency. Before Bitcoin confirmation, transactions depend on Arkade's signer and operating model. Exiting may require several Bitcoin transactions, and high fees can make small virtual outputs uneconomic to recover. These are meaningful limits for wallets and applications assessing the system.
The project is active, but the published documentation calls arkd alpha software with
limited mainnet testing. Release
v0.9.16 was published on
25 August 2026 with downloadable server binaries. The repository is MIT-licensed.
Arkade's website says the open protocol is developed by Ark Labs. Its terms identify the operator as AKR Labs OÜ and govern the service under Estonian law, supporting the limited company classification. No founder or individual role is inferred from commits, release accounts or media coverage, so no person profile is added.
