Alekos Filini

Ingeniero · Consejero

An early Bitcoin Dev Kit developer who wrote the project's first public introduction, and a director of the Bitcoin Dev Kit Foundation.

Alekos Filini wrote the first public article about the Bitcoin Dev Kit, published in December 2020, eleven months after the repository was created. It reads as a getting started guide, and it is also where the project's design goals were set down: well reviewed and tested, lightweight enough for mobile, extendable, generalised through output descriptors, and reasonably easy to use, with the complexity hidden behind a high-level interface.

That article explains the choice the whole library rests on. A BDK wallet is constructed from one or more descriptors rather than from a fixed script type, so the same code path serves a simple single-key wallet, a multisig arrangement, and more complex spending conditions. The wallet keeps a pluggable database as a cache of transactions, unspent outputs and generated addresses, which is what lets the library run on a phone as easily as on a server.

He is now one of five unpaid directors of the Bitcoin Dev Kit Foundation.
