Unchained's own timeline records the company as "founded by Joe Kelly and Dhruv Bansal" in 2016, and lists him as Co-Founder and CSO.
The company's public technical output sits alongside its commercial products. In 2020 Unchained released Caravan, described in its own timeline as an open source wallet, and published under the company's GitHub organisation. Caravan is a coordinator for multisig: it holds no keys itself and instead assembles transactions for hardware devices to sign, which means a customer can reconstruct their vault without the company if they have to.
That is the point of publishing it. A collaborative custody arrangement where the third party's software is the only way to spend is not much of an improvement on custody, and open coordination tooling is what closes the gap.
This entry covers the role as the company states it.
