WeAreBitcoin.org explains what we do with the small amount of information this site handles. It is written to describe what the code actually does, and it is short because the site collects very little.

If you only read one line: we do not sell anything about you, we do not run advertising networks, and the only personal data we store ourselves is an email address you typed into the newsletter form on purpose.

1. What we collect, and when

Reading the site. Nothing is required and nothing is stored by us. Our web server keeps ordinary request logs for a short period so the site can be operated and abuse investigated.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics, and only if you allow it. It does not run until you choose "Accept all" or enable "Analytics" in the cookie banner, and it stays off if you choose "Necessary only". You can change your mind at any time with the cookie button in the footer.

The contact form and the sponsorship form. These send us your name, your email address and whatever you write in the message. They are delivered by EmailJS, which is the service that carries the message to our inbox. We keep the resulting email as long as the conversation is useful, and we do not add these addresses to any mailing list.

The newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address, the language you subscribed in, which form you used, and the dates you asked and confirmed. Nothing else.

2. The newsletter, in detail

Double opt-in. Subscribing records your address and sends you exactly one email asking you to confirm. If you never click it, you never hear from us again, and nothing else is ever sent to an unconfirmed address.

Where it is stored. In our own PostgreSQL database, on our own server in Germany. The list is not held by a mailing platform.

Who delivers it. Resend, an email delivery provider, is the only third party involved: we hand them the address and the message so the message can be delivered. They act as a processor on our instructions.

Leaving. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and mail clients such as Gmail and Outlook can unsubscribe you with their own button because we send the standard headers for it. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately.

What happens after you leave. We keep a record that the address unsubscribed. That is deliberate: it is how we avoid quietly adding you again, and it is the only way to prove you were never mailed after you asked us to stop. If you would rather that record was deleted too, ask and we will delete it.

IP addresses. A subscription may record a one-way hash of the IP address it came from, so an abuse report can be answered. It is a hash, not an address, and it is only recorded when the server is configured with a secret to hash it with. It is never used for analytics, profiling or location.

3. Cookies and local storage

• Your cookie choice is stored in your browser's local storage, not sent to us.
• NEXT_LOCALE remembers which language you are reading in.
• Google Analytics cookies, only after you allow analytics.
• An admin session cookie, which only exists for whoever administers the site.

We set no advertising cookies and no tracking pixels, in the newsletter or on the site.

4. Sharing

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. The only parties who see any of it are the ones named above, each doing one job: Google Analytics if you allowed it, EmailJS when you send us a form, and Resend when we send you a newsletter you asked for.

5. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, object to how it is used, or complain to a data protection authority. Because we hold so little, most of these are quick to answer.
